Bretons feel an inborn, instinctive bond with the mercurial forces of magic and the supernatural.  Many great sorcerers have come from their home province of High Rock, and in addition to their quick, perceptive grasp of spellcraft, enchantment and alchemy, even the humblest of Bretons may boast a resistance to harmful magicka.  They are descendant from human and Aldmiri couplings, but the generations have made them more Man than Mer.

Personality: Many Bretons are curious and full of questions, sporting a burning desire within to learn.  Their curiosity and  appetite for knowledge are known be insatiable.  Often, younger Bretons are driven by a powerful sense of wanderlust.  Through the generations, it has not been unheard of for this voracity for knowledge and power to drive Bretons to mad, perhaps even evil, ends.

Physical Description: Bretons are the smallest of the human races.  They are between 4½ to 5½ feet in height, and weigh 90 to 140 pounds.  As they tend toward slender forms, even the males can often be described as feminine or "beautiful".  Their skin is often pale with rosy cheeks, though they can range into the richer shades of peach.  Their hair can be auburn, red or brown, and they sport eyes of green, brown or grey.

Relations: Bretons tend to mix well in elven settlements, and this is especially true of Altmer communities.  The two races share a wonder of magicka, and they often form friendly, if not a bit tense, rivalries.  Bretons hold little love for Orcs – theirs was among the many races that allied to crush the first Orcish nation.

Alignment: Bretons tend to be dominated by their need to study and reflect upon magicka, and how it shapes their lives and destinies.  Many perform dangerous or immoral experiments on the side, but have no active desire to harm to others.  Commonly, the Breton are chaotic neutral.  As player characters, Bretons may be of any alignment.

Adventurers: Bretons who take well to adventuring are often sought after and highly prized by the Mage's Guild.  By allying
himself with the guild, a Breton finds an easy source of resources, allies and research to study.  On personal adventures, Bretons tend to seek goals with a tangible reward that can further their studies.

BRETON RACIAL TRAITS
+2 Intelligence, -2 Constitution.  Bretons are witty and clever, but are often marked by a frail demeanor.

Humanoid (Elf).  Medium size; as a medium creature, you are under no special circumstances due to size.

A Breton's base speed is 30 feet.

Breton characters always treat the following as class skills: Knowledge (Arcana, the Planes, Religion), Spellcraft and Use Magic Device.

Fortified Magicka: Magicka naturally flows through the Breton, and he channels it with ease.  A Breton gains bonus spells as if his spellcasting relevant ability score were two points higher than it actually is.  This bonus stacks with other bonuses of the same type, such as the additional bonus spells granted by the Apprentice or Mage birthsigns.

Dragon Skin (Su): A Breton is able to channel and shape raw magicka into a field of force around his body that deflects physical harm.  As an immediate action, the Breton may expend an unused spell slot.  He becomes protected against bludgeoning, piercing or slashing damage, and ignores an amount of damage from each attack equal to (2 x (level of spell slot +1).  Dragon Skin can be called upon once per day, and lasts for a number of rounds equal to the sum of his ability score modifiers (minimum of one round).

Magicka Resistance: A Breton is naturally resistant against magicka.  He gains spell resistance equal to 5 + his total hit dice.

Automatic Languages: Breton, Common, Human.
